SPECIALITY INSTRUCTOR

PURPOSE OF THE COURSE

Instructors have continued their training in order to teach a particular speciality by attending a Speciality Training Course with an Instructor Trainer or through a cross over programme.

Various specialities are supported by course notes. However, instructors may write a distinctive speciality programme and submit it for authorisation to RAID before teaching, upon meeting the prerequisites.

PREREQUISITES

• To be certified and renewed RAID Instructor.
• To submit the appropriate minimum logged hours as required and/or as detailed.
• Submit a current Rescue Breathing/CPR Training and Oxygen Provider Instructor certificate (DAN/equivalent).
• Completed and passed the academic Quick Quiz and Exam on-line for each Speciality Instructor programme.
• Meet each Speciality specific requirements.
• Documented proof of prerequisite requirements needs to be presented to the RAID instructor trainer or RAID HQ for approval prior.
• If applicable, complete a practical RAID Speciality Instructor Development Programme - SIDP (this may form part of the IDP).

SPECIALITY INSTRUCTOR CROSS OVER

A certified Instructor may apply, in writing to RAID HQ for accreditation with respect to application for RAID Speciality Instructor certification.

• To be certified RAID Instructor (to see the requirements to become a RAID Instructor click HERE).
• To submit the appropriate minimum logged hours as required and/or as detailed.
• Submit a current Rescue Breathing/CPR Training and Oxygen Provider Instructor certificate (DAN/equivalent).
• Submit equivalent certification from a recognised training agency for each specific Speciality applied for.
• Submit confirmation to having certified divers equivalent to the specific speciality applied for accreditation and/or be a certified Instructor Trainer/Course Director from a recognised training agency in such speciality or equivalent.
• Documented proof of prerequisite requirements needs to be presented to the RAID instructor trainer or RAID HQ for approval prior.
• Completed and passed the academic Quick Quiz and Exam on-line for each Speciality Instructor programme.
• At the discretion of RAID HQ or Dive Centre or Instructor Trainer complete a practical cross over SIDP.

NOTE: The above does not guarantee acceptance by RAID who has the sole decision to accept or ask for further requirements to be met.

SPECIALITY INSTUCTOR DUTIES

In addition to the existing duties, a RAID Rebreather Speciality Instructor is certified to teach within the Terms and Conditions of the RAID General Diving Standards:

• RAID Specialities as approved (Only a RAID renewed RAID Speciality instructor may teach and sign off student skills relevant to the speciality the instructor is registered for).
• Assist a lead RAID Instructor during in water training sessions for courses.
• Guide dives for certified divers to a maximum depth of 40 metres/132 feet.
  Accompany students during in water training exercises.
• Maintain RAID membership.
• Maintain a dive leader attitude at all times when representing RAID.

COURSE CONTENT

RAID Speciality Instructor Development Programme SIDP (this may form part of the IDP).
On-line Speciality academic presentations, quizzes, exam and practical skill training.
In water teaching presentations for confined water and/or open water sessions.

ACADEMIC

Complete and pass the quick quiz and exam in the academic learning presentation/s.

IN WATER TRAINING

Each section will specify the required dives and skill development.

CERTIFICATION

To be certified the instructor must:

• Complete each on-line Speciality Instructor Programme.
• Complete a RAID Speciality Instructor Development Programme SIDP (this may form part of the IDP) or Cross Over Programme.
• Minimum logged hours underwater as detailed in each Instructor Speciality.
• To be certified, the student must be a registered RAID instructor.
• All confined and open water skills have been acknowledged and accepted on-line through the RAID Web site, by the certifying RAID Instructor Trainer and student.
• The RAID Dive centre has confirmed certification on line through the RAID web site.
• Only a RAID registered renewed insured RAID Speciality instructor Trainer may certify a speciality instructor.
